Sue
Dinwoodie established SD Framing in 1996. I joined the Fine Art
Trade Guild in 1998 and in the same year I was a finalist in the
New Business Award category and attended the award ceremony hosted
by the Fine Art Trade Guild.

In
1999 I qualified as a Guild Commended Framer. At the time of
qualifying there were under 500 Guild Commended qualified framers
worldwide.
In
July 2001 I was elected Branch Master for the Cotswold Branch of
the Fine Art Trade Guild and joined the Board of Directors of the
Fine Art Trade Guild. I served as Branch Master and Director for
18 months and when I stepped down I decided to leave the Fine Art
Trade Guild so that I could commit more time to SD Framing.
I am an avid cross stitcher and this is what led to SD Framing
being established. I found it extremely difficult to find a framer
who could offer high quality and affordable needlework, tapestry
and cross stitch framing. When I first tried to have a piece of
work framed I was quoted four times my own present day prices, I
also did not receive the reassurance from the framer that the work
would be looked after and not cut or glued in any way.
I felt very let down by the framers attitude towards my needlework
and this rejection led to the first of many courses and the
establishment of a successful framing business. Since opening SD
Framing I have handled numerous cross stitch pictures from newly
finished pieces to some very old pieces, and appreciate the time
spent by a cross stitcher in completing the work.
I have also undertaken numerous repairs to poorly framed work. I
read with interest in a Cross Stitch magazine that one framer had
framed a customers piece of work the wrong way round showing the
back of the picture as being the front!
In
2000, we launch the "Stitch it Frame it" kit range,
which means that you are able to stitch and then frame your own
needlework in a specially made kit which includes everything you
need to stretch and frame your own work. The kits are currently
available in a variety of colours, red, green, blue, black,
natural and gold and come in a variety of sizes. As all our
frames are made to order, we can make any size kit you require in
the mouldings used for the kits.
Not
only do I frame needlework, but we have also undertaken other
types of framing ranging from a photograph to a hand finished
piece of work from Afghanistan. We also frame medals and sports
shirts.
This
web shows is just a fraction of the frames I have available for
bespoke framing, so if you are looking for a certain type of frame
that is not shown here, please let me know and I will see if I can
get it for you. All frames are built to order, I do not use
standard size frames, and this means you get a frame to fit your
needlework. Please note that in the reproduction of this catalogue
the true colour of each moulding may be slightly altered
As
we work from home, we have to abide by the requirements of the
City Council, and whilst we are more than happy to see people to
help with their bespoke framing, we have to work strictly by
appointment.
We

We
have been very lucky to receive the support from Cross Stitcher
Magazine and we now work with them on a monthly basis to create
special "Stitch it Frame it" kits and offer them at a
reader discount.
In
the June 2002 issue, we supplied the frames to be used for the
"Summer Sensational Flowers" which was featured in the
magazine, the frames were also available for purchase by the
readers in our kit format. This frame and the offer was a huge
success.
From
October 2002 onwards month we have supply a frame to be used with
a piece of needlework, readers are able to order that frame direct
from us to enable them to frame their needlework as per the
magazine. For a limited period of time after the magazine has been
issued the frames will be available at a discounted price, and
then available at the normal price. In July 2004 this increased to
three frame offers per month but sadly in 2007 with the changes in
the magazine, they decided they no longer liked framed projects so
we hope we can offer the occasional frame with Cross Stitcher
With
the success of our mail order Internet service, we have been
fortunate to frame some very interesting pieces of needlework from
some interesting people. In 2003 we were approached by Harper
Collins to frame a piece of cross stitch that they had had
commissioned and stitched and was to be presented to Pamela
Stephenson to celebrate the success of "Billy" her book
about her husband Billy Connelly.
